One Last Trip Before School Begins

August 26, 2021

With Labor Day right around the corner, we bid farewell to another fun summer.

But before you ditch your sunscreen and nature hikes for backpacks and homework, consider squeezing in one last road trip with the family. We put together a short list of ideas to help you have one final adventure full of family fun.

Put a few final stamps in your National Parks passport!
If your summer included weekend trips to a number of our stunning National Parks, use these last few weeks before school starts to get a few final stamps on your National Parks passport. Bonus points if you actually complete the darn thing!

Have a Next-Level Pizza Party
Getting pizza on a road trip is no big deal. Getting pizza in every state you drive through, however, is a huge deal. Map out a route that lets you hit up multiple pizza places in one state, or one in multiple states. And as you head home from your final pizzeria, have your kids share which ones they liked best, and why!

Catch a Meteor Shower
If you’re kids love camping out under the stars, they’ll love waking up to see a meteor shower. The always-stunning Perseid meteor shower arrives this month, and from August 11-13 you’ll be able to see the most meteors with your morning coffee. Earthsky.org has a great blog full of tips and tricks for making the most of this out-of-this-world event!

The Best Option of All
For our money, the best kind of trip to take with your kids before the school year begins is one where you just spend time together. That’s it. No crazy destinations. No long list of things to do. Just all of you together, giving each other your undivided attention, and enjoying every special minute of togetherness you can before your weeks are full of homework and after-school activities.
