Underrated Theme Park Fun

June 18, 2021

When it comes to finding a fun-for-all family vacation destination, theme parks and water parks are the easy destination. But instead of defaulting to “The Happiest Place On Earth” or one of the countless Six Flags locations across the US, why not explore some other options? We collected four of our favorite family fun parks that are worth checking out.

Looking for family fun vacation destinations? Theme parks and water parks are an easy destinations that the whole family will enjoy! Check out these four unique park options that are NOT Disney World or Six Flags.

Wisconsin Dells
Wisconsin Dells, WI

If you’ve ever been to the Dells, you know it’s hard NOT to have family fun here. In addition to being “The Waterpark Capital of the World!®”, the immediate and surrounding areas boast a seemingly endless list of attractions for kids and grown-ups alike. Whether it’s go-karts and trampoline parks or wineries and dinner cruises, a trip to the Dells is guaranteed to make the whole family happy.

Hershey Park & Sesame Place
Hershey, PA & Langley, PA

This two-for-one adventure is a big hit if your kids are littles. Originally a park just for Hershey’s Chocolate employees, Hershey Park is now a massive resort experience that includes rides, waterslides, a zoo, and (our favorite) a place called Chocolatetown! Hop in your RV for an easy two-hour drive and you can also visit Sesame Place, the Sesame Street theme park that features rides (obviously), live shows, and a chance for your little ones to meet their favorite Sesame Street characters.

Elitch Gardens
Denver, CO

We don’t need much convincing to take a trip to Colorado. The natural beauty alone is reason enough to visit. But when you need a break from nature hikes and outdoorsy adventures, Elitch Gardens has all your modern amusement park needs. “Colorado’s only combination theme and water park” provides rides, slides, dining, shopping, and even “dive-in movies.”

Dollywood’s Splash Country
Pigeon Forge, TN

If your kids haven’t yet discovered the national treasure that is Dolly Parton, Dollywood’s Splash Country is a great way to introduce them. It’s a highly rated water park nestled within the mountains, giving you one of the most scenic waterslide and lazy river experiences imaginable. Spend the day in the water, then walk on into Dollywood and change their little lives forever.
