There’s nothing better than getting in your Fleetwood RV and heading to a park, trail, or preserve to wander and explore the beauty of the natural world.

This year, Earth Day falls on a Thursday (April 22). Whether you celebrate after school or wait until the weekend, we wanted to provide a few fun suggestions for Earth Day activities for the whole family.

We put together a short list of things you can do with your kids to celebrate Earth Day and save the planet.

  • Have a Pick-Up Party
One of the easiest ways to make an impact is to pick up litter. Whether you join an organized community clean-up effort or coordinate your own, it’s a great way to teach your kids how something as simple as picking up trash can make a lasting, positive impact on the planet. You can even turn it into a game, offering a prize to whoever manages to pick up the most litter that day.

  • Recycle Without A Bin
Getting to know the rules of recycling is important. (Even for us adults.) But rather than putting everything in the big blue bin, explore some creative ways to repurpose those throw-aways. Clean River has a great blog showcasing some easy-to-make recycling art projects, including toilet roll bird feeders, water bottle fish, and more!

  • Grow Stuff!
If it’s not already a part of your life, use Earth Day as an opportunity to plant a family garden. It combines being outside with getting dirty (a kid’s favorite things) and could lead to some tasty summer salads and snacks. HGTV put together a helpful resource of easy plants for kids to grow. Check it out!

  • No Running In The House, Please
Specifically, no running water until you’re ready to use it. When it’s time to brush your teeth on Earth Day, teach your kids to turn off the faucet until they’re ready to rinse. And if you want to expand the water conservation lessons, you can find some great kid-friendly posters here.

No matter how you choose to celebrate, spending even a small amount of time talking about Earth Day with your kids will create a great sense of respect and value in the planet, and will make them treasure your nature adventures even more.
