Tips for Traveling with Kids
Whether you’re about to embark on your first adventure together as a family or are just plain open to ideas for making family travel less stressful and more fun, we’ve got you covered. Check out this short compilation of tips for traveling with kids.
Traveling with your family doesn’t have to be stressful. We’ve compiled a list 4 tips for traveling with kids that will make your life on vacation a whole lot easier.
Include Them In The Prep
From clothes and toys to snacks and travel games, involve your kids in the decision-making process. Extend this involvement to the drive time itself by asking for their help in deciding which gas stations and restaurants to stop at on the way there.
Be Smart About When You Depart
A very common thing we heard was how important it is to choose the right departure time. Sometimes you hit the kid lottery and wind up with little ones who fall asleep the minute the RV starts moving. If that doesn’t describe your kids, however, consider an early morning or late night/overnight departure time.
Give Them A Job
Keeping your kids engaged the entire time might be as simple as putting them in charge of documenting the entire family outing. An easy, all-ages way is asking them to keep a travel journal that can include writing, drawing, and collage. If they’re older (but not quite old enough to have their own mobile device), give them a camera and make them the official road trip photographer.
Make Them Answer The Most Important Question
Not gonna’ lie: When we heard this tip we almost gave it a standing ovation. Make sure to stash an actual paper map in your RV. That way, the first time your kid asks if you’re there yet, you can hand them the map and make them figure it out. Best case scenario: They learn how to properly read a map. At a minimum, it should be a pleasant distraction.
